The purpose of this site is to collect lab research by medical doctors about herbs that are proven to treat illnesses and counter the false attacks on herbs by the medical industry and false claims by alternative medicine. I let the science tell the facts.

Borax

Despite all the false propaganda Borax is not only 'not harmful,' but scientifically proven to treat obesity and diabetes as it increases T cells. see report 3 and Wound healing report 4

1. "Borax, also known as sodium borate, sodium tetraborate, or disodium tetraborate, is an important boron compound, a mineral, and a salt of boric acid. Powdered borax is white, consisting of soft colorless crystals that dissolve easily in water.Borax has a wide variety of uses. It is a component of many detergents, cosmetics, and enamel glazes. It is also used to make buffer solutions in biochemistry, as a fire retardant, as an anti-fungal compound for fiberglass, as a flux in metallurgy, neutron-capture shields for radioactive sources, a texturing agent in cooking, and as a precursor for other boron compounds." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borax

3. "The aims of this study were to clarify the effects of dietary boric acid or borax, as a boron (B)...The B compounds especially borax decreased leptin, insulin, and glucose levels, whereas increased T(3) and carnitine levels in plasma. In addition, body weight of rats was found to be low in the boric acid group at the end of 4 weeks. Consequently, our results demonstrate that B supplementation (100 mg/kg) in diet decreases body weight, leptin, and insulin, whereas increases T(3) levels in plasma, so enhances the metabolic activity of rats. Between the B compounds used in this study, it was found that borax had a greater effect on hormonal status than boric acid." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23293135 Wow, it lowers weight, glucose, increased T cells, with no reported harm.

4. "Silver-loaded dressings are designed to provide the same antimicrobial activity of topical silver, with the advantages of a sustained silver release and a reduced number of dressing changes. Moreover, such type of dressing must provide a moist environment, avoiding fiber shedding, dehydration and adherence to the wound site. Here we describe the preparation of a novel silver-loaded dressing based on a Gellan/Hyaff(®) (Ge-H) non woven, treated with a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/borax system capable to enhance the entrapment of silver in the dressing and to modulate its release. The new hydrophilic non woven dressings show enhanced water uptake capability and slow dehydration rates. A sustained silver release is also achieved. The antibacterial activity was confirmed on Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22939352

5. "Borax gave 30-50 % protection against AFB1 induced SCEs and MNs. In conclusion, the support of borax was especially useful in aflatoxin-toxicated blood tissue. Thus, the risk on target tissues of AFB1 could be reduced and ensured early recovery from its toxicity." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22526492 Borax reduces the infections from mycotoxins

5. " Borax counteracts genotoxicity of aluminum in rat liver...It can be concluded that BX (borax) has beneficial influences and has the ability to antagonize Al (aluminum) toxicity." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22491726
