The purpose of this site is to collect lab research by medical doctors about herbs that are proven to treat illnesses and counter the false attacks on herbs by the medical industry and false claims by alternative medicine. I let the science tell the facts.

Autism is related to Aspergers

As with other diseases that I am collecting research on, Autism is shown below to relate to Metallothionein, Copper, Mercury and Candidia problems. The more research I collect the more these items are being listed in relationship to diseases. It leads me to wonder about their relationship with oxidative stress. More and more researchers are listing oxidative stress as the underlying cause of diseases which in turn seems to effect Metallothionein , Copper, Mercury and Candidia. Which comes first or second is not yet completely clear, leading to the assumption that treating each would seem to be important.

Those of us who do not have Autism or Asperger problems cannot really understand their issues. I have created a page for those who have these diseases to express their views and feelings in the hope that it will benifit them and those who associate with them. See their story

The research below indicates to treat this disease one may be able to help it by increasing Anti-Oxidants and avoiding Oxidants. Increasing Selenium has research indicating it causes zinc to be more effective which in turn helps normalize high copper levels.

Many natural products include copper without recognizing some people cannot tolerate copper. Just because copper is a necessary nutriment and may be deficient in some people does not mean everyone needs more copper. The research below along with a lot more on other areas of this site prove many people are harmed by taking supplements containing copper. See What's wrong with Supplements

If these things effect Autism what are they doing to the rest of us. Could it be that many more mental conditions are related to heavy metal problems than we realize. Another subject is the oft believed assumption that everyone can control their thoughts and actions. The repeated research on this site is revealing the nasty fact that heavy metals cause dysfunctional behaviors presently believed to be a result of our thoughts.

2."There is a great deal of evidence that a form of yeast, candida albicans, may cause autism and may exacerbate many behavior and health problems in autistic individuals, especially those with late-onset autism. .

3. "The plasma zinc/serum copper ratio as a biomarker in children with autism spectrum disorders.
Faber S, Zinn GM, Kern Ii JC, Skip Kingston HM. The Children's Institute, Pittsburgh, PA, USA. The frequency of zinc deficiency, copper toxicity and low zinc/copper in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) may indicate decrement in metallothionein system functioning. A retrospective review of plasma zinc, serum copper and zinc/copper was performed on data from 230 children with autistic disorder, pervasive developmental disorder-NOS and Asperger's syndrome. The entire cohort's mean zinc level was 77.2 mug dl(-1), mean copper level was 131.5 mug dl(-1), and mean Zn/Cu was 0.608, which was below the 0.7 cut-off of the lowest 2.5% of healthy children. The plasma zinc/serum copper ratio may be a biomarker of heavy metal, particularly mercury, toxicity in children with ASDs. PUBMED 19280374

4. "Chronic inorganic mercury exposure induces sex-specific changes in central TNFa expression: importance in autism? Mercury is neurotoxic and increasing evidence suggests that environmental exposure to mercury may contribute to neuropathologies (study of disease of nervous system) tissue including Alzheimer's disease and autism spectrum disorders. Mercury is known to disrupt immunocompetence (ability of the body to produce a normal immune response following exposure to an antigen) in the periphery,.. (the external surface) These findings are consistent with our previously reported male-specific mercury-induced deficits in social behavior and further support a role for heavy metals exposure in neuropathologies such as autism. Subsequent studies should further evaluate the mechanism of action and biological consequences of heavy metals exposure...
