The purpose of this site is to collect lab research by medical doctors about herbs that are proven to treat illnesses and counter the false attacks on herbs by the medical industry and false claims by alternative medicine. I let the science tell the facts.

Colon Cancer

There are many research reports validating various herbs to treat colon cancer to put them all into this page. Click this link to Pub Med and see some of the reports. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/?term=colon+cancer+herbs.

Herbs listed in the scientific reports below to treat colon cancer.

1.  "Paeonia lactiflora Pall is one of the most well-known herbs in China, Korea, and Japan for more than 1,200 years. Paeoniflorin, the major bioactive component of peony root, has recently been reported to have anticolitic activity...Thus, for the first time, the present study indicates that paeoniflorin abrogates DSS-induced colitis via decreasing the expression of TLR4 and suppressing the activation of NF-?B and MAPK pathways." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24232001

2.   "Osthole is extracted from the Chinese herbs Cnidium monnieri and Angelica pubescens, and it was found to have antitumor activity..." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24127835

3.   "Ursolic acid inhibits the growth of colon cancer-initiating cells by targeting STAT3...Our results suggest STAT3 to be a target for colon cancer prevention. UA, a dietary agent, might offer an effective approach for colorectal carcinoma prevention by inhibiting persistently activated STAT3 in cancer stem cells." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24122993

4. "An herbal preparation called Essiac tea is reported to treat colon cancer. Essiac tea includes burdock root, turkey rhubarb root (Indian rhubarb), sheep sorrel, and slippery elm bark. Burdock root, a key active ingredient," http://www.cancertutor.com/essiac/  http://www.healthfreedom.info/cancer%20essiac.htm PubMed reports both favorable and not favorable results of Essic tea. "...Essiac tea possesses potent antioxidant and DNA-protective activity, properties that are common to natural anti-cancer agents. This study may help to explain the mechanisms behind the reported anti-cancer effects of Essiac...." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16226859

5. "Previously, we demonstrated that magnolol, a hydroxylated biphenyl compound isolated from the bark of Magnolia officinalis, at low concentrations (3-10 µM) exerted an antiproliferation effect in colon cancer, hepatoma, and glioblastoma (U373) cell lines through upregulation of the p21/Cip1 protein. Magnolol at a higher concentration of 100 µM, however, induced apoptosis and upregulated p27/Kip1 expression in U373. In the present study, we further studied whether the increased p27/Kip1 expression contributes to the magnolol-induced apoptosis in U373. Our data show that knock-down of p27/Kip1 expression significantly suppressed the magnolol-induced apoptosis, suggesting that p27/Kip1 might play an important role in the regulation of magnolol-induced apoptosis...Taken together, our data suggest that magnolol at a higher concentration of 100 µM induced apopotosis in U373 cells through cSrc-mediated upregulation of p27/Kip1." http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23448150 What a remarkable report, yet another proof that the medical community ignores scientific research in order to poliferate their use of pharm and surgeries.
